Nuclearelectricas profit hikes to 28 million euros in 2008

Nuclearelectrica, the state-run power company in charge of supervising the nuclear power plant in Romania, registered a 16 percent advance in net profit last year, largely due to the connection to the grid of the second nuclear reactor, NewsIn informs.
The company’s turnover rose last year from to 1.4 billion lei 909.6 million a year earlier. It also produced 11,225,808 MWh energy in 2008, a 72 percent hike over 2007, after the second reactor became operational in November 2007.

Nuclearelectrica was set up in 1998 and controls the two units of the nuclear power plant in Cernavoda and the nuclear fuels plant in Pitesti. The two reactors each have an installed power of 700 MW. Other two reactors will be constructed and connected to the grid after 2016. The new units will have a similar power.
