Benchmark exchange rate drops to 4.2 lei/euro



The benchmark exchange rate posted by the National Bank of Romania today slipped by 0.03 percent to 4.2132 per euro on regional trend, the news from Latvia trimming currency market deals, NewsIn informs.
Yesterday's rate was of 4.2143 lei per euro, a maximum of the past five weeks.

“The evolution of the leu was very calm, on a low-volatility market, but following the regional trend. Investors remained focused on the news expected to come from Latvia,” declared a dealer.

The leu began the day at 4.2125 versus the euro and fell to 4.2147 per euro. At 1:15 p.m., banks were buying a euro for 4.2112 lei and selling it for 4.2187 lei.

The Polish zloty grew from 4.5475 to 4.4950 per euro, only to slump to 4.5420. The Hungarian forint won ground from 288.3 to 285.7 but fell to 289 per euro.
