Final ballot count: PSD+PC scores 31.07% of votes, PDL 29.71%
The leftist coalition PSD+PC got 31.07 percent of the votes for the European Parliament (EP) poll yesterday and the center-right PDL followed closely with 29.71 percent, final results of the Central Electoral Bureau (BEC) show.
Thus, PSD+PC got a total 1,504,218 votes and PDL counted 1,438,000 ballots.
The Liberal Party (PNL) ranked third with 14.52 percent or the equivalent of 702,974 votes, followed by the Hungarian minority party UDMR with 8.92 percent and 431,739 votes, far-right PRM with 8.65 percent and 419,094 votes and independent Elena Basescu with 4.22 percent and 204,280 votes.
Christian Democrat Peasant's Party (PNTCD) scored a total 1,45% of yesterday's ballots, below the threshold required to send a representative to Brussels.
The poll turnout stood at 27.67 percent yesterday.
At the previous poll for the European Parliament on November 25 2007, PD scored 28.81 percent and got 13 seats in the EP, PSD got 23.11 percent and 10 seats, PNL 13.44 percent with 6 seats, PLD 7.78 percent and 3 seats and UDMR 5.52 percent with 2 seats. Independent Laszlo Tokes scored 3.44 percent.
Romania sent 35 representatives to the EP in 2007, but their number reduced to 33 seats in the poll this year.
