Romanian leu stays weak against euro, after mild increase in early trades

Romania's national currency, the leu, appreciated slightly by 0.05 percent to a benchmark exchange rate of 4.1977 against the euro, as the national currency's float was reduced on a market in line with the region, NewsIn informs.
BNR had announced a benchmark exchange rate of 4.1998 lei per euro yesterday.

“The market was quiet, in line with the region, as the publishing of the memorandum for the accord inked between the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and Romania did not make any impact, as most of the information was already known to the market,” a dealer declared for NewsIn.

The leu inched from 4.20 to 4.1960 versus the euro in the first part of the day. At 1:35 p.m., banks bought the euro with 4.1940 lei and sold it for 4.1985 lei.

In the region, the Polish zloty gained ground from 4.4925 to 4.4715 against the euro and the Hungarian forint appreciated from 280.50 to 278.70 units per euro, then the exchange rate hiked towards 279.50.
