Romanian leu gains ground after slight drop in early trades
The national currency moved close to 4.21 per euro this morning, after dipping to 4.225 in the early trades, following the regional trend caused by the devaluation of the U.S. dollar, NewsIn informs.
The leu opened the session at 4.218 per euro and after tumbling, it got back up to 4.21. At 11:10 a.m., banks were buying a euro for 4.2070 lei and selling it for 4.2145 lei.
Ioan Birle, chief-dealer with the fifth lender by assets Banca Transilvania, thinks that the market could react to the benchmark lending rate decisions that the central bank will take tomorrow. “A decrease of the key interest rate bigger than 0.5 percentage points could push the leu down,” he said.
The Polish zloty rose from 4.522 to 4.483 versus the euro, while the Hungarian forint increased from 277.4 to 275.9 per euro.
