Number portability: Cosmote and Vodafone win the most new subscribers
In Romania, 100,000 phone numbers were ported, 70,845 in mobile telecommunication and 29,155 in the landline telephony, after 35 weeks since introduction of number portability facility, said ANCOM.
In case of the mobile phone lines, all five operators gained new subscribers following the introduction of this facility: Vodafone – 26,353, Cosmote – 26,104, Orange – 17,322, RCS&RDS – 652, Telemobil – 414”, ANCOM said.
“One hundred thousand numbers have been ported. Enough to prove us the efficiency of number portability facility and that users are aware of the existence of it. Not too many however, which shows us that carriers make efforts to retain their clients and satisfy their needs. This is the essential role of portability, to confer clients more power and to give operators an additional reason to try harder” said the chairman of National Auhtority for Communications (ANCOM), Catalin Marinescu.
Of the total number of ported numbers (100,000), 70,845 are mobile phone numbers and 29,155 are fixed-line numbers.
“The 29,155 fixed-line numbers were ported to the following carriers: A&G Communication - 2, Air Bites - 1, Atlas Telecom – 20, Cobalt IT- 43, Datek Telecom - 5, Dial Telecom – 444, Euroweb – 17, GTS Telecom– 204, Ines Group – 57, Iristel – 10, Media Sat – 25, Necc Telecom - 5, Newcomm – 244, Orange – 1,263, RCS&RDS – 6.486, Romtelecom – 1.250, Telcor – 20, Telemobil – 71, UPC – 14,670, Vip Net – 6 and Vodafone – 4.132”, reads the press release remitted by ANCOM.
The number of ports per week is averaged at 858, while in June 01-05 week 2009 was registered the highest number of ports (1,857), after 33 weeks since the introduction of the facility. The highest number of ports was registered in April (6,532), and the lowest number of ports was registered in November 2008 (the first months since the introduction) – 445.
