Romanian leu loses ground against euro



National Bank of Romania announced a benchmark exchange rate of 4.2032 lei per euro, 0.33 percent up on the previous session, on a decreased risk appetite of investors, which dragged down also other emerging currencies, NewsIn informs.
BNR posted a benchmark exchange rate of 4.1892 lei per euro, the lowest of the past month.

“Regarding the evolution of the euro/leu exchange rate, we have witnessed a corrective movement which led to the depreciation of the national currency on the interbank market from 4.1910 to 4.21 versus the euro,” declared for NewsIn a bank dealer.

The leu lost ground from 4.1918 to 4.2105 against the euro until noon and then recouped a little, and at 2 p.m. banks bought the euro with 4.2020 lei and sold it for 4.2090 lei.

In the region, the Polish zloty slipped steadily from 4.3490 to 4.3790 versus the single European currency while the Hungarian forint depreciated in the first transactions from 269 to 270.55 units per euro, then climbed to 267.30.
