Romanias industrial output shrinks for eighth month in May
Romania’s industrial production dropped for the eighth month in a row in May, even if the decline slowed down from previous months, the statistics office said earlier today.
Compared to prior-year period, Romania’s industrial output fell 9.8%, largely dragged down by mining and quarrying output as well as by manufacturing.
In April, industrial production dropped 9.5% from previous month. September 2008 was the last month when the industrial production increased by 3.8% year-on-year.
The output in mining and quarrying decreased by 13.2% in May, while in manufacturing it fell 11.3%. Electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply output increased by 2.4%.
On industrial sections, durable consumer goods output dropped 17.9%, intermediate goods by 13.9%, non-durable consumer goods output contracted by 9.5%, capital goods output by 3.6% and energy by 1%.
