Romanian lender Banca Carpatica steps back in the black in H1

Lender Banca Comerciala Carpatica stepped back on profit in the first semester, with a double gain compared to the one initially estimated for this time of the year, after it posted losses in the first quarter, the bank's general manager Nicolae Hoanta declared.
The lender reported 11.63 million lei losses in the first trimester.

The second quarter was very good. We focused on continuing lending, although the rate was slower compared to last year, Hoanta said.

As for the number of employees, the GM said Banca Carpatica counted 20-25 less people at the end of May compared to the end of 2008, NewsIn states.

The official also mentioned the bank's assets in the first semester rose 30 percent versus the end of last year and the market share increased from 0.8 to 1 percent. Banca Carpatica ran assets of 2.29 billion lei at the end of 2008.

The lender does not need additional capital increases besides the one its shareholders will approve on July 18, worth 28 million lei, Hoanta declared.

The board of Banca Comerciala proposed shareholders a share capital hike by 28 million lei to 229.25 million lei, through cash contributions.
