Romania inflation slows, remains EUs highest
Romania’s June inflation rate remained the highest in European Union, of 5.9% as EU’s rate stood at 0.6%. The countries with the highest inflation after Romania were Poland (4.2%) and Lithuania (3.9%), Eurostat shows.
Romania’s National Institute of Statistics announced on July 10 that the country’s annual inflation rate slowed in June to 5.86%, meeting projections, from 5.59% in May, on food price decline and calibrated increase in non-food and service prices.
The EU-countries with the lowest inflation rates were Ireland (-2.2%), Portugal (-1.6%), Belgium, Spain, Luxembourg (all -1%). Compared to May 2009, the annual inflation slowed down in 21 states, stayed flat in four and increased in one.
In the euro area, the annual inflation rate was -0.1% in June, after 0% rate a month earlier. The monthly inflation rate in the euro area and EU stood at 0.2% in June.
