Leu strengthens against euro at midday



The benchmark exchange rate posted by National Bank of Romania lowered by 0.11 percent today to 4.2397 lei per euro, after the national currency strengthened in the first part of the day and then slipped slightly, following the regional trend, NewsIn informs.
NBR settled a benchmark exchange rate of 4.2443 lei per euro in the previous session, the highest level since March 27 when it stood at 4.2484.

The leu rose from 4.25 to 4.23 per euro on opening and then started to lose ground. At 1:30 p.m. banks were buying a euro with 4.2358 lei and selling it for 4.2433 lei.

In the region, the zloty soared from 4.3350 to 4.2880 versus the euro and slipped to 4.2975, while the forint advanced constantly from 275.7 to 272.75 and eased to 273.25 afterwards.

NBR’s benchmark exchange rate also indicates a 0.96 percent rise of the national currency versus the U.S. dollar to 2.9797 lei per dollar, from 3.0085 in the previous session.
