Leu loses ground to euro



The benchmark exchange rate established by the National Bank of Romania soared 0.21 percent to 4.2186 lei per euro, on a market dominated by apathy, with few transactions, as the national currency followed the general trend of regional currencies and continued to wave within a small range, NewsIn informs.
The central bank posted a benchmark exchange rate of 4.2098 lei per euro yesterday.

The exchange rate climbed from 4.21 to 4.22 per euro in the first part of the day and at 1:15 p.m. banks were buying a euro with 4.2143 lei and selling it for 4.2233 lei.

In the region, the zloty depreciated from 4.1450 to 4.1650 over the euro, while the Hungarian forint plummeted from 270 to 273 versus the European currency.

For the U.S. dollar, NBR settled a reference exchange rate 0.48 percent higher compared to the previous session, from 2.9262 to 2.9374 lei per dollar.
