Leu edges down at midday



The benchmark exchange rate settled by the National Bank of Romania climbed 0.24 percent to 4.2216 lei per euro, after the national currency lost ground in the morning, in line with the regional currencies, and then stabilized at 4.2250, NewsIn informs.
NBR posted a benchmark exchange rate of 4.2116 lei per euro in the previous session.

The euro was traded for 4.22 lei in the early trades and then soared to a maximum level of 4.2250. At 1:20 p.m. banks were buying a euro with 4.2196 lei and selling it for 4.2286 lei.

In the region, the zloty plunged from 4.1460 to 4.20 versus the euro and then inched to 4.19, while the forint slipped from 272.5 to 274.3 over the European currency and recovered to 273.5 afterwards.

For the U.S. dollar, NBR’s exchange rate added 1.4 percent to 2.9919 lei per dollar, from 2.9505 in the previous session.
