Public sector workers threaten to strike

The National Federation of Public Sector Trade Unions has sent a list of demands to Prime Minister Emil Boc, threatening to strike if the Government refuses negotiation talks.
“If the Government fails to call the representatives of FNSA for negotiation talks in order to resolve the claims listed, the union will start labor conflict and take industrial actions as follows: simultaneous strike meetings in all county capitals, picketing public institutions and Romanian Government, two-hour warning strike or unlimited strike", said the chairman of FNSA, Valeriu Suciu.

The protests come as a response to the recent State’s plans to trim the country’s budget spending through furloughs, layoffs and pay cut in order to meet targets imposed by IMF.

Suciu said the members of the trade unions have not formulated any pay rise plea but under no circumstances will they accept a salary cut as long as utility and food prices have not decreased accordingly.
