Leu strengthens against euro



The benchmark exchange rate posted by National Bank of Romania slipped 0.1 percent to 4.2173 lei per euro, after the national currency advanced in the early trades, in line with the region, and then settled at 4.22.
Yesterday, NBR established a benchmark exchange rate of 4.2216 lei per euro.

The euro was traded for 4.2215 lei on opening and then slipped to 4.2150. At 1:10 p.m. banks were buying a euro with 4.2136 lei and selling it for 4.2226 lei.

In the region, the Polish zloty rose from 4.18 to 4.1650 versus the euro, while the Hungarian forint inched from 273.2 to 272.5 over the single European currency.

For the U.S. dollar, NBR’s exchange rate lowered 0.14 percent to 2.9876 lei per dollar, from yesterday's 2.9919.
