Annual advance of bank deposits reaches 13% in July



Household and corporate deposits in local and foreign currency continued their upward trend in July, growing at a monthly rate of 0.4% up to 158,634 billion lei (37.66 billion euros), on increasing fx-denominated deposits, official figures provided by National Bank of Romania show. The annual growth pace of bank deposits climbed to 13% in July from 12.3% in May.
Leu-denominated bank deposits fell in July by 0.3% from end-June, down to 101.46 billion lei (24.08 billion euros). Compared to a year-ago period, leu-denominated deposits increased by 9.9%.

FX-denominated deposits expressed in lei increased by 1.5% month-on-month, up to 57.17 billion lei, and when expressed in euros, FX-denominated deposits increased by 1.4% up to 13.57 billion euros.

Compared to a year earlier, household and corporate deposits increased by 19.1% in nominal terms and expressed in domestic currency. When expressed in euros, FX-denominated deposits of residents fell 0.1%.
