Leu rises slightly versus euro in midday trade



The benchmark exchange rate settled by the National Bank of Romania slipped to 4.2229 lei per euro, on a calm market, with low volumes, where the national currency waved within a small range, following investors' lack of interest towards the leu, NewsIn informs.
Yesterday, NBR posted an exchange rate of 4.2231 lei per euro.

The euro soared from 4.22 to 4.2265 lei in the early trades and at 1:05 p.m. banks were buying a euro with 4.2204 lei and selling it for 4.2294 lei.

In the region, the zloty gained from 4.0940 to 4.0750 versus the euro and then plunged to 4.1080, while the forint inched from 272.50 to 271.43 over the single European currency, but cheapened to 274.42 afterwards.

For the U.S. dollar, NBR’s benchmark exchange rate fell 0.28 percent to 2.9470 lei per dollar, from 2.9554 in the previous session.
