Midday Forex: RON/EUR below 4.2



The benchmark exchange rate set by the National Bank of Romania fell 0.22 percent to 4.1953 lei per euro, the lowest level of the past three months, following high demand of lei on the market, which also lifted interests above the monetary policy rate, NewsIn informs.
NBR last posted such a low exchange rate on July 1, when the euro was traded for 4.1892 lei. In the previous session, the leu stood at 4.2046 lei per euro.

The single European currency dropped below 4.2 lei on opening and then hovered near the threshold. At 1:45 p.m. banks were buying a euro with 4.1950 lei and selling it for 4.20 lei.

In the region, the forint lost ground in the morning and remained at 270 per euro, while the zloty slipped gradually and stopped at 4.225 versus the euro.

NBR's exchange rate for the U.S. dollar inched 0.13 percent to 2.8662 lei per dollar, from 2.8625 in the previous session.
