Online payments exceeded 69 mln year-to-date

Electronic payment transactions with the banking card in the first nine months stood at €69.5 million, up 75% from the same period of last year, according to a survey conducted by RomCard.
The number of electronic payment transactions totaled 886,000 in the nine months through September this year, almost double compared to year-ago period. 784,000 transactions were conducted on ePayment platform that had a total value of over €65 million in the period under review.

“The dynamics of the online buying, payment and purchasing behavior of Romanian consumers shows that there is still room for growth in the local market, even under tough economic conditions. This performance confirms that Romanians have become more familiar to online shopping. Therefore, we expect electronic payment transactions to reach a total euro value of €93 million by year-end and a total number of 1,200,000”, said Marin Mitroi (photo), managing director of RomCard.

“So far, online payment market has shown a great resilience amid the global economic downturn. The year-over-year growth in the number of online payment transactions conducted on our platform determined us to increase year-end forecasts for transactions volume. We expect our affiliated online stores to conduct transactions via ePayment platform of more than €80 million in 2009”, said Carmen Sebe, CEO Gecad Payment.

In third quarter this year, the total value of online payment transactions at online stores using ePayment platform increased by 7% from Apr-Jun 2009. The average value of each transaction increased in 2009 to €88 in third quarter, versus only €77 in the first three months of the year. In the first nine months this year, the average transactions value stood at €83, hovering near last year’s level of €84.
