Romanias trade gap narrows 60.4% in August
Romania’s trade deficit fell by 60.4% in August from the same period of last year, to €731.7 million (3.09 bln lei), as imports fell faster than exports.
When expressed in euro, imports fell 35.5% in August to around €2.9 bln, while exports dropped 18.2% compared to year-ago period, to €2.17 bln, Romania’s trade deficit narrowing for the eleventh successive month.
As for imports, the largest decline was recorded for commerce with non-EU members, from which Romania imported commodities worth €900.1 mln, 43.5% less than €1.59bln a year earlier. Imports to EU Member States dropped in August by 31.2% to €2.005bln, according to statistics institute’s estimates.
Overseas sales to non-EU Member States fell 18.9% year-on-year, to €680.7 mln, while sales to EU Member States shrank 17.9% to €1.49 bln.
Month-on-month, exports dropped by 22.1%, while imports fell 12.5% when expressed in euro.
