Midday Forex: Leu stays down vs euro



The official exchange rate set by the National Bank of Romania increased by 0.13 percent to 4.2897 lei per euro, the highest level of the past six months and a half, on political pressures over the possible collapse of the government, NewsIn informs.
The local currency fell to the weakest level since March 24, when it was traded for 4.2924 lei, according to NBR.

The central bank posted an exchange rate of 4.2840 lei per euro yesterday.

The national currency stood at 4.2820 versus the euro in the early trades, but soon fell to 4.2910. At 1:15 p.m. banks were buying a euro with 4.2886 lei and selling it for 4.2976 lei.

In the region, the Polish zloty decreased from 4.2050 to 4.2280 versus the euro, while the Czech koruna slipped from 25.82 to 25.90 per euro. Hungary's forint eased from 267.50 to 268.70 versus the single European currency and then inched to 268.50.

For the U.S. dollar, NBR’s benchmark exchange rate lowered 0.24 percent to 2.9008 lei per dollar, from 2.9078 in the previous session.
