Midday Forex: Leu touches one-month low vs euro



The benchmark exchange rate set by the National Bank of Romania climbed 0.23 percent to 4.2995 lei per euro the highest in eight months on Wednesday, in generally quiet trading as risk appetite pushed emerging currencies to fresh lows against their major rivals.
The leu fell to its weakest level since February 17, when the euro was traded for 4.3096 lei. The central bank set an exchange rate of 4.2897 lei per euro yesterday.

The single European currency stood at 4.2890 lei this morning and then climbed to 4.3050. The leu inched slightly and stabilized near 4.30 and at 1:15 p.m. banks were buying a euro with 4.2946 lei and selling it for 4.3036 lei, NewsIn informs.

In the region, Hungary's forint fell from 269.50 to 272.50 versus the euro, while the Polish zloty tumbled from 4.2120 to 4.2635 per euro.

For the U.S. dollar, NBR’s exchange rate added 0.94 percent to 2.9074 lei per dollar, from 2.8803 in the previous session.
