Midday Forex: Leu recoups some losses vs euro



The benchmark exchange rate set by the National Bank of Romania fell 0.29 percent to 4.2955 lei per euro, after the national currency shot upwards in the early trades, showing a different evolution from its regional peers, dealers suspecting the central bank's indirect intervention, NewsIn informs.
NBR posted yesterday an exchange rate of 4.3079 lei per euro.

The leu advanced constantly on opening and rose from 4.3150 to 4.2850 per euro, but soon slipped to 4.2950. At 1:15 p.m. banks were buying a euro with 4.2962 lei and selling it for 4.3052 lei.

In the region, the zloty fell from 4.2225 to 4.25 versus the euro and then inched at 4.2350, while the forint dropped from 271.5 to 273.5 per euro, and recovered to 272.5 afterwards.

For the U.S. dollar, NBR’s exchange rate declined 0.92 percent to 2.8927 lei per dollar, from 2.9197 in the previous session.
