Romanias 9-month trade gap shrinks 61%
Romania’s trade gap narrowed by 61.4% in the first nine months this year to €6.93 billion, as imports fell 36% from year-ago period to €28.1 billion and exports decreased 18.3% year-on-year, to €21.18 billion.
When expressed in lei, trade gap narrowed 55.2% in the nine months ending September 30, to 29.3 billion lei.
In Q1-Q3 2009, Romania’s exports to non-EU members fell 28.7% compared to the same period of last year, to €5.48 billion, while imports to non-EU members dropped 44.1% to €7.5 billion.
To EU members, Romania exported commodities worth €15.7 billion, 13.9% less than a year earlier and imported 32.4% less, of around €20.6 billion.
Car sales had the biggest share in Romania’s total exports in the period under review, of 41.9%, followed by fuel (6.4%), food products, drinks and tobacco (6.1%), raw material (6.1%), chemical products and derived chemical products (4.7%). Other products accounted for 34.8% of the country’s total exports.
As for imports, cars accounted for 33.1%, followed by chemical products (14.3%), fuels (9.5%), food products, drinks and tobacco (8.8%), and raw materials (2.77%). Other products accounted for 31.6% of Romania’s total volume of import commodities.
