Inflation in the euro area turns positive



Annual inflation rate in the euro area turned positive in November, for the first time since April, as consumer prices advanced 0.6% from the same period of 2008, according to a flash estimate issued by the statistical office of the European Union, Eurostat.
In October, annual inflation rate in the euro area was -0.1% year-on-year, after hitting -0.3% in September, -0.2% in August, -0.7% in July and -0.1% in June, while in May it remained at the same level.

In April, inflation rate in the euro area rose 0.6% from the same period of last year.

After record-high in consumer price increase of 4% touched in July 2008, the inflation rate started to stabilize, and turned negative on crude price drop and severe recession in the euro area.

The euro area has officially emerged from recession in third quarter 2009, when the Gross Domestic Product increased 0.4% on a quarterly basis.
