Midday Forex: Leu remains weak to euro



The National Bank of Romania has set the leu’s daily mid-point at 4.2249 versus its European peer, 0.26% above Monday’s reference rate, despite the early morning gain.
Yesterday, the central bank has set a mid-point reference rate at 4.2141 lei/euro.

The national currency was trading near 4.2340 units/euro in the morning, and gained afterwards to 4.2240lei/euro. The leu fell slightly t o 4.23 units/euro later on.

“The leu showed a modest gain in the early trades, and lost ground afterwards, amid a generally downward trend in the region versus euro. However, the leu’s firmness seems to have been supported by the central bank’s repeated interventions, because otherwise, the exchange rate could have been near 4.30lei/euro”, a dealer said.

In the region, the forint traded near 269.45 and 270.75 versus euro, while the Polish zloty between 4.0680 and 4.0930.

The leu’s daily mid-point reference rate versus the US dollar was set at 2.8489, 0.14% higher than Monday’s 2.8449.
