Midday Forex: Leu still in downtrend



The National Bank of Romania fixed the leu’s daily mid-point against the euro at 4.2373, up marginally from Tuesday’s reference rate, (+0.29%).
Yesterday, the central bank set a reference rate of 4.2249 lei/euro.

The national currency was trading near 4.2380 lei/euro in the early trades, above the yesterday’s closing and dropped to 4.2420. Afterwards the leu managed to buck the downtrend and remained below the 4.24 barrier. At 13:25, banks were buying a euro for 2.24 lei and selling it for 4.2450 lei.

In the region, the Polish zloty fell in the morning from 4.1265 to 4.1420 versus euro, but recouped some of the losses at noon to 4.1220 versus euro and traded in a tight range afterwards. Hungarian forint traded between 272.90 and 274.55 today.

The leu’s daily mid-point reference rate versus the US dollar was set at 2.8691, 0.71% higher than Tuesday’s 2.8489.
