Michael Grewe, Mercedes: After-sales operations expected to rise in 2009

Mercedes-Benz’ share of after-sales operations in Romania in total revenues has increased to 35%-40%, from around 20%.
“If after-sales servicing were normally accounting for 20% of Mercedes-Benz Romania’s turnover, in 2009, the share is expected to rise to 35-40%”, said Michael Grewe, CEO and chairman of Mercedes Romania at the opening of the car parts warehouse of Mercedes Benz in Romania.

The development of the after-sales operation will successfully offset the decline in new car sales, Grewe continued.

Automotive market will remain at the 2009 level next year, but buyers will no longer benefit of the same hefty discounts, since stocks are running low.

“The economy may show some modest signs of recovery. And starting 2010, the auto industry will pick up as well in terms of cars and price. However, we will no longer see the hefty discounts as in 2009”, said Grewe. Mercedes-Benz Romania expects car sales to remain at this year’s level. “We expect 2010 sales to come in at 2009 level”.

Mercedes-Benz Romania has 23 showrooms and 29 authorized repair shops around the country.

On November 13, businessman Ion Tiriac agreed to sell 49% stake in Mercedes-Benz Romania to Daimler.

Mercedes-Benz Romania SRL (initially DaimlerChrysler Automotive Romania SRL), started its operations on January 1, 2007, as a result of a partnership between Daimler AG (51%) and Tiriac Group (49%).
