OBI plans to open two stores in Romania next year

DIY retailer OBI that began operations in Romania at the end of 2008, said it would add two more stores to the existent four-unit chain next year.
“The performance of our network in Romania after the opening of the stores in Oradea and Bucharest has topped any expectation. This encourages us to stick to our investment plan in 2010”, said Romano Quinzi, country manager OBI Romania.

The two stores will be located in Sibiu and Ploiesti.

The do-it-yourself market is estimated by market players at €2 billion.

OBI began operations in the local market in November 2008 and has 4 branches around the country, in Oradea, Bucharest, Pitesti and Arad. OBI markets around 40,000 products.

OBI’s main competitors in the Romanian market are Praktiker, Dedeman, Bricostore, bauMax, Hornbach, Mr. Bricolaje and Tekzen.

The DIY retailer will increase headcount in 2010 by 60%, namely around 300 persons.
