Mihai Seitan sees unemployment rate at 8.5% in 2010
Mihai Seitan, the proposed Minister of Labor said Tuesday that the jobless rate would rise to 8-8.5% in first half 2010, but that the state pension system would not be at risk of being blocked.
“I am convinced that job losses will continue next year, but will stand below 150,000-200,000. We will find solutions to curb these losses and re-qualify redundant workers, so as to avoid a high social pressure over the state”, said Seitan.
The representative of PD-L party said the restructuring of the public system would be conducted based on cost standards, but the budget plan didn’t assume any layoff in the public sector.
“The pension system is complicated in financing terms, but regardless to the situation, the pensions of around 30% Romanians will be paid out in normal conditions”, Seitan pointed out.
