Heineken shuts down Hateg brewery, lays off 98



Heineken Romania, the country’s second biggest brewer said it would shut down Hateg brewery. The move will affect 98 workers.
The production of Hateg brewery will be transferred to Heineken’s other facilities in Miercurea Ciuc, Targu Mures, Craiova and Constanta. “The aim of this move was to bring production output at an optimum level and to consolidate Heineken’s position in Romania, in light of the weak economy”, the brewer said in a statement.

According to the company, the 98 workers at the brewing plant will be affected by the move. They will receive severances and training courses for acquiring general knowledge for accessing European funds. Furthermore, the company will open a Professional Reorientation Center where they will receive professional assistance.

“The decision to transfer Hateg production to other Heineken facilities has been made after a thorough analysis of all options, taking into account the best interest of the company and its employees. Our top priority now is to assist employees affected by the move in their job search. I believe the complete set of measures we’ve taken to mitigate the impact of brewery shutdown reflects our commitment to all Heineken’s employees at the Hateg facility”, said Jan Derck van Karnebeek (photo), chief executive of Heineken Romania.
