Midday Forex: Leu rally loses steam



EUR/RON reference rate increased by 0.22% today to 4.1097 lei/euro, as the national currency fell steadily in the interbank market after touching one-year high yesterday.
On Monday, the National Bank of Romania set a reference rate of 4.1008 lei/euro, the lowest since January 7, 2009 , when the rate was 4.0720 lei/euro.

The national currency fell steadily against its European counterpart. At 14:00 the leu was trading in the 4.1122-4.1212units/euro range.

In the region, the emerging currencies followed a similar trend, the Polish zloty dropping from 4.0074 to 4.0317 against euro while the forint fell from 266.96 to 268.29 units/euro.

Versus the US dollar, the reference rate set by the National Bank of Romania is 2.8687 lei/dollar, up 0.6% from yesterday’s 2.8513 units/dollar.
