Midday Forex: Leu shows modest gains

The reference rate set by the National Bank of Romania dropped slightly today, by 0.14% to 4.1382 lei/euro in line with the regional currency markets.
“Currencies in the region have shown modest gains today, the leu was a bit stronger, propped up most likely by the positive news on Romania’s aid deal with the International Monetary Fund”, a dealer told NewsIn.

Yesterday, the reference rate set by NBR has been the highest since January 8.

On Friday, the leu marked the first day of growth versus its European counterpart after touching one-year high on Monday of 4.1008 lei against euro, followed by three successive days of decline.

For the US dollar, the reference rate is 2.9255 lei/dollar, down 0.92% from Thursday’s rate.
