EU provides 5.7 bln financial assistance to its neighbors



The European Commission will allocate in the next three years over €5.7 billion to reinforce political cooperation and promote economic integration between EU and its neighbors, including Moldova that will receive €237.1 million, the institution said in a release.
The European Union will support 19 major projects. The largest recipients of the financial assistance will be Morocco (€580.5 million), Ukraine (€470.1 million), and Egypt (€449.3 million). Israel will receive the lowest share of the package, namely €6 million.

Funding will go to support political and economic reforms, regional and cross-border cooperation. It will also support projects in areas like climate change, transport, energy and environment.

In 2010, EU neighbors will receive around €1.6 billion and in 2013, the assistance will amount to€2 billion.
