Holcim Romania posts 2009 operating profit of 54 mn

Holcim Romania, the wholly-owned subsidiary of Switzerland-based cement giant, Holcim said its operating profit for 2009 stood at €54 million, as revenues dropped 33% to €250 million.
Cement and clinker sales fell 19% in 2009, according to the annual report released by the company earlier this month.

“The 50% drop in concrete sales had a severe impact over 2009 revenues, coupled with the adverse weather conditions and decline in construction. However, we are satisfied with our results. Given the performance of other subsidiaries of the group, Holcim Romania had relatively good results”, said Markus Wirth, Holcim Romania’s chief executive.

For 2010, the cement producer expects 5% drop in revenues year-on-year.
