Georgia backs Nabucco pipeline



The minister of foreign affairs, Teodor Baconschi received during his visit to Tbilisi the confirmation of Georgia’s backing of the Nabucco pipeline. Georgian officials have also expressed their interest in going further with the Azerbaijan-Georgia-Romania route talks.
Should the Azerbaijan-Georgia-Romania supply route plan take shape, the gas from Azerbaijan would be transported to Constanta.

During Romanian minister’s official visit to Georgia, he met with the president of the country Mihail Saakasvili, prime minister Nikoloz Gilauri, vice prime minister for the Euro-Atlantic integration Giorgi Baramidze, and with the Georgian minister of foreign affairs, Grigol Vasadze.

The talks between the two officials focused on the energy security. The Georgian authorities have reiterated their support in the Nabucco project, and expressed interest in holding further talks on the Azerbaijan-Georgia-Romania supply route.

The talks also addressed key issues on the regional and international agenda, such as cooperation in the Black Sea area, regulating frozen conflicts, and Georgia’s European and Euro-Atlantic perspectives and energy security.
