Record plunge in used car industry



The used car industry in Romania posted the biggest decline in March, of 75%, from 13,060 cars to 52,897 data from DRPCIV show.
In the same period of 2009, the used car market grew 259% and slumped 66% in December. The only drop in 2008 was recorded in June (-46%) to 6,493 cars and the biggest increase was observed in December (+471) to 54,712 cars.

Used car registrations fell 54% in the first quarter to 35,414 cars, from 76,790 in the year-ago period, but compared to new-car registrations, the decline is of 70% to 8.819 in Q1.

In February, used car registrations dropped 42% year-on-year in Romania, from 17,952 to 10,458.

Used car market doubled in January, with 11,896 cars being registered in Romania from 5,941 in year-ago period.

The best-selling used cars have been VW (9,788 units), Opel (8,919 units), Ford (3,538), Audi (2,399), and BMW (1,859).

Used car registrations dropped in 2009 by 29% to 212,910 cars after a hefty 143% jump a year earlier to 300,885 and 5% increase in 2007 to 123,842 cars.
