Romanian companies can apply to EU Gateway to enter Japan

EU Gateway program launched in July 2008, continues with applications sessions for Information Technology and Communications companies interested in entering the Japanese market.
The application deadline is May 14, 2010, and the mission will take place on September 13-17, 2010.

“Although competition on the IT&C market in Japan is fierce, there are some niches such as unique consumer devices, specific electronic computers and devices and embedded systems that still have room for growth”, said Alexandru Bernea, Business Analyst with Deloitte Advisory and coordinator of this stage of the program.

The EU Gateway program, an initiative of the European Union, exclusively implemented by Deloitte’s EU, Japan and South Korea practices, aims at improving access to Japan and Korea, in markets difficult to penetrate (particularly the highly regulated technological sectors).

“Although most Romanian companies in the IT&C industry lack the degree of innovation required to compete on a market as sophisticated as Japan, there might be a handful of firms that can step up the challenge”, Alexandru Bernea added.

The program covers six economic sectors: environment and energy-related technologies, information and communication technologies, healthcare and medical technologies, construction and building technologies, fashion design, and interior design. The program organizes six cycles of Business Missions throughout six years until 2014-2015.
