Blue Air loses 2.5 mn due to flight ban

Blue Air, one of the largest low-fare carriers in Romania said it lost around €2.48 million due to the volcanic ash that forced air traffic control to close airspace.
The low cost-airline canceled 164 flights due to flight restrictions, and left over 20,100 passengers stranded.

“The shutdown caused €1.7 million loss in sales, and €450,000 in ticket refund. The rebooking cost us around €300,000, while the costs of operating on other airports stood at around €30,000”, Blue Air representatives said.

Blue Air sent these data to the European Commission and to the Romanian Government in an effort to seek support in managing the situation.

Blue Air’s rival Wizz Air canceled 124 flights to and from Romania.
