Midday Forex: Leu loses ground to euro



The National Bank of Romania set a reference rate of 4.1246 lei/euro, up 0.15% from yesterday, as the leu fell steadily in the morning against the euro, in a regional move that saw most of leu’s peers losing ground to the European currency.
On Monday, NBR set a reference rate of 4.1186 lei/euro, the lowest rate since April 8.

The leu dropped steadily in the morning, from 4.116 to 4.122 units against euro. At noon, the euro started to rise again, reaching 4.1270 lei/euro.

In the region, the Polish zloty took a sharper plunge, by 0.6% to 3.90 units/euro, while the Hungarian forint gave up 1% against its European counterpart to 265.9 units/euro.

For the U.S. dollar, NBR set a reference rate of 3.0960 lei/dollar, down 0.01% from yesterday.
