Cartel Alfa threatens Govt with war of attrition

The leader of Cartel Alfa, Bogdan Hossu, said today that trade unions would start a war of attrition against the Government, which would involve strikes and protests, if the Government sent the letter of intent to the International Monetary Fund without the modifications required by the social partners.
“This war will last for as long as needed. We’re willing to go all the way and bring down this government, if our requirements are not taken into account”, said Hossu after the meeting of the Economic and Social Council.

Trade unions disagree with the wage cuts in state-run companies, given the previous round of layoffs, or with the 15% retirement benefits cuts “where the Government could have accepted a differentiated reduction”, said Hossu.

“The Government could draft a new letter of intent in one week, as the Minister of Finance said, and then negotiate with the International Monetary Fund a new agreement”, Hossu added.
