Public sector workers begin strike as negotiation talks fail

Public sector workers will step up their protest on May 31 against the Government’s plans to cut pay, as negotiation talks between Government officials and union leaders on pay cuts austerity measures failed.
“We agreed in only one aspect in the letter of intent that the Government plans to send to the International Monetary Fund, namely the measures for combating tax evasion. But apart from that, none of our proposals were considered”, said Marius Petcu, leader of CNSLR Fratia union.

Leader of Cartel Alfa, Bogdan Hossu, said trade unions would receive Thursday the measures for which the Government will assume liability in the parliament. The spending cut plan will be subject to debate in the Friday session of the Social and Economic Council.
