OPCOM to launch carbon emission trading platform



Romanian Power Market Operator the trading platform for greenhouse gas emission certificates (ECTP) on June 1.
“Regulation or organization and operation of the greenhouse has Emissions Certificates Trading Platform, approved by the Economy, Trade and Business Environment Ministry order creates the framework of auction sessions, both public-auction like and through web-trade platform for ongoing trading, for each offer proposed by participants registered to the ECTP to buy or sell certificates”, the institution said.

For the time being, there are three classical green certificates categories: green tags (already trading in Romania through OPCOM), carbon dioxide emissions (trading as commodities) and renewable energy certificates for which there is no regulatory framework for their trading.

OPCOM trades only green tags as of 2005. A green tag represents 1 MWh of renewable energy produced. OPCOM traded 141,607 green tags at an average price of 215.34 lei/certificate (€55/certificate).
