Jan-Apr home-building approvals, in freefall
In the four months into April this year, municipalities issued 11,307 building permits, 22.8% fewer than the same period of last year, data from the National Institute of Statistics show.
The biggest declines were observed in South-Muntenia (-687 permits), South-East (-599 permits), Bucharest-Ilfov (-528 permits), North-West and North-East (-447 permits).
According to the statistics office, municipalities issued 385 fewer building permits in April this year than in the same period of last year, a decline observed in almost all regions. The biggest declines were observed in Bucharest – Ilfov (-105 permits), South-East (-100 permits), North-West (-78 permits) and North-East (-58 permits).The number of building permits rose in only one region: Center (+13 permits).
In April 2010, municipalities issued 3,686 building permits of which 63.9% were for the rural area. Data broken down by region point to an increase in the number of building permits in almost all regions. The biggest growths were observed in: South-Muntenia (+116), North-East (+70) and South-West (49 permits). Declines were observed in Centre and North-West.
