Midday Forex: Leu hits record low against greenback
The National Bank of Romania set a reference rate of 3.4544 lei/U.S. dollar, a fresh record low, while the EUR/RON rate rose by 0.28% from 4.1792 to 4.1910.
For the U.S dollar, the central bank set a reference rate of 3.4544, up 1.65% from 3.3984 lei/dollar. The leu has thus fallen to the lowest level against its U.S peer since November 11, 2003, when a dollar was traded for 3.4756 lei.
In the monetary market, short term interests remained below the monetary policy rate of 6.25%.
