A&D Pharma set for debut in the private healthcare business



A&D Pharma, the largest drug distributor, said it would open its first private clinic in Bucharest, under Anima brand.
The new clinic, located in Victoriei square, is the first unit developed by Anima Specialty Medical Services SRL, company established earlier this year.

“In two years, we want to be the clinic of choice for Romanians, the clinic that is ten minutes away from home, or workplace. On a long term, Anima will not only be a solid business, but will also bring a major contribution to improving patients’ quality of living”, said Robert Popescu (photo) CEO of A&D Pharma.

The company said it would open other units in the future. “The next clinic will be opened in the coming period in Pantelimon, Bucharest”, drug distributor said. By the end of the year, Anima’s headcount is expected to increase to 300.

With a gross area of 600sqm, the clinic provides medical services covering specialties including: general medicine, internal medicine, family medicine, cardiology, dermatology, ENT, gynecology, labor medicine, gastroenterology, oncology, nutrition disease and obesity, nephrology, psychology, psychiatry, surgery, homeopathy, family planning, allergy and immunology, urology, orthopedics, neurology, rheumatology, endocrinology, ophthalmology, respiratory medicine, mammography, bone densitometry, 4D echography, and blood tests.

The drug company’s 2009 sales grew 3%, expressed in euro, to €514.3 million and 166% increase in operating profit to €35.1 million from a year earlier.

Last year, the Romanian drug industry recorded a 1.5% drop in euro, to €1.92 billion, according to data from the market research company Cegedim.

Founded in 1994, A&D Pharma holds Mediplus drug distributor and Sensiblu the largest pharmacy chain in Romania. Last year, A&D Pharma reported turnover of €501.5 million. A&D Pharma are traded at London Stock Exchange in the form of global depository receipts (GDR) starting October 2006.
