Print sales in freefall, except for Patricius titles

National newspaper sales fell across the board in the first quarter 2010 compared to the same period of last year, data from the Romanian Circulation Audit Bureau (BRAT) show.
The only titles that had seen an increase in sales are the ones in Adevarul Holding media company, Adevarul and Click and Financiarul published by Intact. The slightest decline was observed in Gazeta Sporturilor, of 35% in the first three months.

Click still retains its top spot in the list of best-selling newspapers, the tabloid published by the media company held by Dinu Patriciu, with sales up 15%. Its main competitor, Libertatea, published by Swiss-based Ringier, remained second, but it narrowed margin from the third position held by Adevarul. Positioned in the quality category, Adevarul managed to knock CanCan tabloid off the third spot, due to investments and book insertions.

Excepting Jurnalul National, that keeps sales constant, all the other titles recorded significant decline in sales. Gandul newspaper was outranked by its peer Ziaru Financiar, positioned in the business niche area.
