Basescu chides Government for not taking austerity measures earlier

President Traian Basescu chided the Government in the meeting with the ministers and PDL members of the parliament held in Snagov, for not putting in place the austerity package earlier.
“The president spoke for around 20-30 minutes. He said the Government should have taken the austerity measures much earlier “, sources closed to the issue said.

Traian Basescu also suggested Prime Minister Emil Boc was the victim of the actions of his own ministers. He stressed that the increase in pension benefits and salaries granted by PNL in the past years have led Romania to the situation where it is now.

President Traian Basescu held a meeting with Prime Minister Emil and members of the Cabinet and members of the parliament from the Liberal-Democratic Party. The meeting addressed the assumption of the liability by the Government for the austerity package in the Parliament.

The leftist PSD said it would put two motions of non-confidence before the Parliament. In order to bring down the Government, the opposition needs 19 votes from the ruling party.
