Midday Forex: Leu loses ground to euro



The National Bank of Romania set a reference rate of 4.2208 lei/euro, 0.02% up from Wednesday, in line with the inter-bank trendline of the national currency.
On Wednesday, the central bank set a reference rate of 4.2200 lei/euro.

Thus, the leu opened lower this morning, falling from 4.2165 to 4.2267 lei against euro, but recouped a part of the losses and at 13:30, banks were trading a euro for 4.2215 lei.

In the region, the Polish zloty had a strong start this morning, but at noon, it traded between 4.1205 and 4.1467 units per euro without a clear direction. Also, the Hungarian forint grew in the morning from 281.90 to 281.10 units per euro, but dropped suddenly to 283.50 units versus euro.

Versus the U.S dollar, the reference rate set by the National Bank of Romania dropped to 3.4961 lei/US dollar, 0.89% down from Wednesday.

In the monetary market, short term interests dropped modestly below the benchmark interest rate of 6.25% per year.
