Midday Forex: Leu crushes to year low



The National Bank of Romania set a reference rate of 4.23 lei versus euro, up 0.21% from Monday, the highest rate of the year.
The leu hasn’t been that weak since December 16, 2009, when NBR set a reference rate of 4.2459 lei/euro. On Monday, the reference rate was 4.2234 lei/euro.

After a quiet overnight trade, the national currency took a steep plunge in the morning from 4.2278 to 4.2395 lei/euro, but grew afterwards to 4.23 lei/euro.

In the region the Polish zloty traded between 4.0660 and 4.09 zloty/euro with no clear direction, while the Hungarian forint fell in the morning from 279.30 to 280.70 forints/euro, but grew at noon to 279.40 forints/euro.

Versus the U.S dollar, the National Bank of Romania set a reference rate of 3.4556 lei/US dollar, 0.28% higher than Monday’s rate of 3.4460 lei/U.S dollar.
